EFFECTIONHATE Re-Imagines MINISTRY's 'Psalm 69'
December 14, 2010EFFECTIONHATE, the experimental music project led by multi-instrumentalist Shannon Gardner-Gausten, has just released its first commercially available song, "Fifteen (Psalm 69 Mix)". A complete re-working of MINISTRY's classic track "Psalm 69", "Fifteen (Psalm 69 Mix)" is available for download at iTunes.
Using bass stems and samples from the original "Psalm 69" track authorized and supplied by former MINISTRY bassist Paul Barker via TuneCore, Gardner-Gausten intentionally created an incarnation of MINISTRY's track that bears virtually no resemblance to the original.
"When I was presented with the opportunity to experiment with Paul's original tracks, the very last thing I wanted to do was simply regurgitate the original
MINISTRY song," Gardner-Gausten says. "Instead, I manipulated Paul's bass beyond the point of recognition, had my husband Joel add some sporadic percussion, put down some multi-layered keyboard tracks and threw in some truly disturbing samples from a recording from infamous tent revivalist, A.A. Allen. The female climax at the end was, shall we say, homegrown."
Formed by Gardner-Gausten in 2007, EFFECTIONHATE creates music ranging from techno to classical to atonal industrial noise, with the project's evolving list of contributors ensuring that no two compositions are alike. The group features full-time member Joel Gausten, a veteran of such bands as PIGFACE, THE UNDEAD and ELECTRIC FRANKENSTEIN.
EFFECTIONHATE is recording its debut full-length album, "Music Is Dead", for a November 2011 release. Contributors to the CD include drummer Martin Atkins (PIGFACE, NINE INCH NAILS, MINISTRY, PUBLIC IMAGE LIMITED) and guitarist Sonny Bellavance.
